Μαύρη Θάλασσα: Κίνδυνος για περιβαλλοντική καταστροφή από πλήγμα σε τάνκερ

Μεγάλη πυρκαγιά ξέσπασε σε δεξαμενόπλοιο που μετέφερε πετρέλαιο στη Μαύρη Θάλασσα, ανοιχτά του ρωσικού θέρετρου Σότσι, μετά από επίθεση με θαλάσσια μη επανδρωμένα σκάφη, σύμφωνα με το ρωσικό υπουργείο Μεταφορών.

Το «Aframax Rio», με σημαία Λιβερίας, επλήγη από θαλάσσια drones το βράδυ της Τρίτης. Μετά το πλήγμα, ξέσπασε μεγάλη φωτιά και το πετρέλαιο άρχισε να καίγεται στη θάλασσα, δημιουργώντας ένα τεράστιο σύννεφο μαύρου καπνού που ήταν ορατό από μεγάλο τμήμα της ακτογραμμής του Σότσι.

Το σύνολο του πληρώματος, 23 Ινδοί ναυτικοί, απομακρύνθηκε με ασφάλεια από το πλοίο. Σύμφωνα με τις ρωσικές Αρχές, δεν υπάρχουν τραυματίες.

New Delhi: A crude oil tanker, AFRAMAX RIO (IMO 9273844), caught fire off the coast of Sochi in Russia’s Black Sea region on Tuesday evening. A massive fire and a thick column of black smoke, reportedly visible from several kilometres away, were seen rising from the vessel.

Initial reports suggest that the tanker may have been targeted in a possible Ukrainian maritime drone attack. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed by Russian authorities. Some local reports have also mentioned a possible maritime drone strike.

AFRAMAX RIO, IMO No. 9273844, is a Liberia-flagged crude oil tanker. Available vessel records indicate that the ship is approximately 247 metres long, with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of around 107,113 tonnes.

According to reports, the tanker was located approximately 15 kilometres off the coast of Sochi. The vessel’s latest AIS position was also reported in the same general area.

Following the incident, local authorities reportedly closed beaches in the Sirius area and began monitoring air and water quality as a precautionary measure.

Some reports indicate that 23 crew members were onboard the tanker and that the Master requested an evacuation. However, there is currently no independently confirmed information regarding the condition of the crew or any casualties.

Information is being gathered to determine whether any Indian seafarers are among the crew onboard AFRAMAX RIO.

Φόβοι για περιβαλλοντική καταστροφή

Η ένταση της πυρκαγιάς δεν επέτρεπε στα πυροσβεστικά και διασωστικά σκάφη να πλησιάσουν το δεξαμενόπλοιο.

Το ρωσικό υπουργείο Μεταφορών ανέφερε ότι στο σημείο συνεχίζεται η ανοιχτή καύση πετρελαίου.

Το  πρωί της Τετάρτης, δεν υπήρχαν πληροφορίες για πετρελαιοκηλίδα κοντά στις ακτές. Τοπικές Αρχές είχαν θέσει σε συνεχή παρακολούθηση την ποιότητα του νερού και του αέρα.

Οι παραλίες και οι παραθαλάσσιες ζώνες στο Σότσι, μία πόλη 500.000 κατοίκων και στην ομοσπονδιακή περιοχή Σίριους, κοντά στο σημείο του περιστατικού, έκλεισαν προσωρινά για προληπτικούς λόγους.

Οι Αρχές ζήτησαν από κατοίκους και τουρίστες να μην πλησιάζουν την ακτογραμμή έως ότου αρθούν οι περιορισμοί.
